WLA VA Campus

Veteran Guardian Angels (VGA) was formed as a not for profit 501 (c) (3) in direct response to the President’s Executive Order of May 9, 2025, to provide a plan to construct upwards of 6,000 new housing units on the WLA VA Campus as a National Center for Warrior Independence.

Veteran Guardian Angels is a mission-driven organization dedicated to honoring, protecting, and supporting veterans, both on campus and off-site. Our peer-to-peer experiences and activities ensure that no veteran stands alone during moments of vulnerability, change, or recovery.

Veteran Guardian Angel’s Three Pillars of Services include Recovery, Jobs and Housing, within an integrated community environment.

I. Recovery

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services:

Veteran Guardian Angels works with recognized experts to provide veterans with a Full Continuum of Care for recovery and mental health services to help them rebuild their lives with confidence. These services will include comprehensive programs for addiction, PTSD, mental health, trauma, anxiety and other related issues. To begin the process of individual and community building, Veteran Guardian Angels is pioneering in providing weekly events to get veterans outside their rooms including supporting Softball and Pickleball tournaments, and have proposed Gardening and Food distribution, Birding and vocational training as well. In joining with the Bandini Foundation on campus, Veteran Guardian Angels is supporting, among other things, permanent Pickleball Courts on their Heroes Golf Center, together with related equipment, training and classes for veterans.

 

II. Jobs

Job Training and Placement; Continuing Education:

Veteran Guardian Angels will assist veterans to secure job training and placement to provide them with new skills, increase their independence, and help them with their transition to the civilian community. We plan to facilitate access to jobs on the WLA VA campus itself and in off-site venues, as well through Veteran Guardian Angels member facilities and their staff. This is being coordinated with continuing education efforts with local providers and Veteran Guardian Angels’ vendor associates.

 

III. Housing

The Homestead Community:

To provide housing for Los Angeles homeless veterans on the West LA VA Campus, Veteran Guardian Angels has presented an initial plan to develop the “Homestead Community" on the South Campus, consisting of 650 new units with an historic  “craftsmen  look”. This facility will include its own Food Court (serving 3 meals a day), full outdoor facilities and sustainable services to enhance recovery within the VA campus, and further to the outside community, as well as assisting veterans to reunite with their families. As part of the Homestead, Veteran Guardian Angels is planning to include a building to house families and prospectively VA staff members through a combination of other buildings.

North Campus Community Initiative:

In connection with the President’s Executive Order, under Washington’s Veteran Administration executive staff leadership, Veteran Guardian Angels has been invited to present a plan to utilize existing historic North Campus buildings to create a “community hub” similar to its Homestead Community concept as a basis of approving Veteran Guardian Angels plan to build it as Phase 1 of an integrated  concept of upwards of 2,000 units on the South Campus, immediately adjacent to the VA Hospital Facility.
